First impression - South Beach meets Vegas in the Middle East. This place is truly amazing, everywhere you look around this oasis in the desert it's over the top hotels, beaches, construction cranes, and traffic jams. Though I haven't had time yet to explore much what I can say is that this place is beyond all expectations. There are a lot of westerners here, even the cabbies here speak english (more than I can say about Toronto), so getting around is dead simple. It seems shopping malls here are as common as palm trees - call it part necessity in that it's just too hot to walk around outside in the summer and part rampant consumerism. With all of the name brand everything I must admit to not feeling any real culture shock, so I'm really looking forward to exploring the souks (outdoor markets) in the older parts of town.
